Postcard: Librarian as teacher – information literacy in Bangladesh

Today’s postcard comes from our Bangladesh Country Ambassador, Shaharima Parvin and was inspired by the recent discussion topic on librarians as teachers.

LIBRARIAN AS TEACHER: EAST WEST UNIVERSITY LIBRARY ARRANGES INFORMATION LITERACY PROGRAMS FOR ITS PATRONS ROUND THE YEAR

Whenever, I am delivering lectures on information literacy program for patrons, I always try to start by sharing a story. I think it makes our patrons to be more comfortable to understand why information literacy is essential for their research life. Being an employee of university library, I am dealing with young users and I am involved with this program closely.

East West University Library (EWU) provides a variety of services designed to support students, faculty members, researchers, and staff members of East West University. It also conducts Information Literacy Program for students and faculty members round the year. The library arranges this program Tuesdays and Thursdays every week at 3.00 pm to 4.00 pm. Old and new students can register themselves online using library website. http://lib.ewubd.edu/registerlilp. This program is mandatory for the students for their library membership.

Moreover, EWU library arranges hands on sessions for its patrons. For evaluating what they have learnt by this program, EWU Library organises various tests related to information literacy program. EWU Library Team is working hard to help its patrons for progressing the information literacy skills for evaluation of information as well as information sources.

Thanks Shaharima! Want to send us a postcard from your library? Find out how
