There are lots and lots and lots of articles available online to help you get the most out of your conferences and events and how to master the art of networking:

Our top tips are simple:

  1. Be friendly: Ever walk into a room and felt like everyone knows everyone else except you. Well, we guarantee that almost everyone at a conference has felt like that at some point, so be the brave one and break the ice by saying hello to a stranger.
  2. Be professional: Being at a conference is just like being at one long job interview. Everyone you meet may be your new boss one day. So remember to always behave professionally as the library world can be remarkably small.
  3. Be interesting: You will meet so many people and it’s important to make a lasting (positive) impression. Ensure you have your elevator pitch ready so you can wow your new contacts!
  4. Be flexible: We can plan and prepare for conferences but the best opportunities are often the unexpected ones. Be flexible to ensure you can take advantage of opportunities as they arise.
