Today’s guest post comes from our Indian Ambassador, Kishor Satpathy, who is sharing with us some of the details of his workplace. Thank you for the contribution Kishor!
I’m working as Institute Librarian in National Institute of Institute Technology Silchar located in the remote North East Corner of India quite near to Bangladesh. It is an academic library. This is a residential campus; around 4000 campus residents (students, faculty & staff) keep us busy for the whole year.
My professional life starts in the morning at 9 AM & ends at 8 PM. Apart from my daily routine library administrative work, I have number of additional responsibilities that keep me busy for the whole day. They are coordinating a few ongoing projects, advising Students Gymkhana (Official Student’s Union Body), editing the Institute publications etc. Whenever, I get time out from the above activities I keep on organizing information literacy programmes for our Institute community members & organizing lots of professional activities for the fellow library professional in the region. Some of my last programme can be found in the programme blogs like “What’s Next in Library”, “INDEST 2014”, “Innovating India” & “NE Library Network” etc.
Currently, we are constructing a world class LIS facility at NIT Silchar which is going to the one of the largest & costliest academic library facility in India. In order to facilitate the creation of a innovative, inviting and flexible library system to enhance campus learning, support research, and provide community outreach and service at NIT Silchar, we have recently entered an collaborative MOU with University Library of University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, USA.
