Monthly discussion part 1: reflection and review

February is the final month of round 1 of the ILN program. Which means it’s time for us to take a moment to reflect on the program and our experience.

The importance of reflection on our professional practice can’t be understated. It is through reflection that we consolidate our learning and evaluate our activities. Training courses and professional development should always include time for reflection on what was learned and, importantly, what remains to be learnt. 

This month we’re asking our participants to reflect on their experiences of being part of the ILN over the last six months. Since September each of you has, hopefully, gotten to know a librarian in another country. How was this experience for you?  Think about and discuss the following questions:

  • What did you learn about the library profession in your partner’s country?
  • What did you learn about your partner’s workplace?
  • What professional issues do you have in common with your partner?
  • What professional issues are different for your partner?
  • What was new or different for you about participating in the ILN?
  • What are the things you’ve wondered about throughout the program but have never asked?

    I learned a lot. America is a country in which is our profession highly developed, than their American counterparts, I found out a lot of useful information.
    My ILC partner works in terms that I had the opportunity to study at University, or hearing about them at professional meetings, but I saw them rarely encountered in practice. Most of the time of his professional involvement hi is one man library.
    David and I have a lot in common. We love our job. We take it very seriously. We are learning all the time.
    The differences are related mainly to the use of technology. Significantly higher prevalence of technological innovation in daily communication with customers is evident in our every exchange of information from library.
    Almost everything was new to me. I have never had so intense and so direct communication with a colleague from United States as my ILC partner. I was lucky that David was communicative and very good person so that our communication was so successful mainly because of him. I can say that we became friends.
    Unfortunately I have too many responsibilities and too little time so I did not get a chance to thoroughly look at everything you’ve offered so I’ll respond to this in any of the following cycle program
