1. What is one new thing you want to start doing in 2014?

I am thinking about starting a blog this year but am not sure what I would write it about.

2. What is one thing you want to try doing differently in 2014?

I am looking forward to reducing my working hours to get more balance in my professional and personal life.

3. What is one thing you want to stop doing in 2014?

I will stop putting all my papers in one file to sort later and sort them regularly.

  1. Hi Rachel, I have recently combined my two blogs into one, as I found I was spending more time on the personal one but still wanted to have a place for my professional thoughts as/when required. I just have lots of categories in my blog and one of them is “The Library Me”. Like Alyson (and you!), much of my thinking and writing at the moment is either at work, about the ILN or for my Uni course.

You could start by finding some blogs you like (about any old thing) and follow them, but more importantly, check out some of the blogs they follow if you can. Sometimes a blog challenge such as Blog Every Day in June (ILN wrote a post about this in June last year, sorry, I can’t seem to put links into this comment) is a good way to get started, or just google ‘blog challenge’ to get some ideas?

    Good luck!

  2. Thanks Alyson,
I am not sure if a mix of library/parenting/craft/baking would be too much, maybe just focus on one area but then I might not have much to write?
Hmm, will get the last assignment for the semester out of the way first.

  3. Good luck with your blog Rachel! I have the exact same problem with my blog, compounded by the fact that the ILN often claims my creativity before my own blog does.

If you’re looking to balance personal and professional, is it worth considering having the blog focus on something personal? It doesn’t have to be groundbreaking to be a worthwhile exercise.
