The ‘Blog June’ challenge

A few years ago, a handful of librarians in Australia decided to get together and start a daily blogging challenge for the month of June. Known as ‘Blog every day in June’, or #blogjune on twitter, participants take on the task of writing and publishing a blog post every day for the entire month. The challenge has grown each year and a list attempting to capture participant bloggers for 2013 is here

This is by no means an Australian thing any more – we have bloggers participating from all around the world and it’s never too late to sign up and have your name added to the list of challenge takers!

If you don’t feel up to the challenge of writing a blog post every day for a month, how about read and perhaps comment on one post each day? It could be from a range of blogs, or from just one or two. Those of us who have participated in the past can tell you it’s lovely to have both readers and comments, particularly towards the end of the 30 days when it can be hard to keep finding new ideas and it’s not clear how you’re going to get to the end! At those times, knowing you have interested readers can be just the inspiration needed to keep writing.

Have you ever participated in a blog challenge? Does the process of writing every day have benefits for you (whether professionally or personally)? Join the discussion in the comments below, or on twitter, using #blogjune and #interlibnet so others can follow along.

Last year I participated in #blogjune and thoroughly enjoyed it. I blog everyday at Finding Heroes but wanted to try a different style of blogging – slightly more visual and creative. I setup a new blogto do this so as not to alienate (or overload) my current followers. I found the challenge of blogging every day exhausting yet exhilirating and in the end I couldn’t keep it up for the whole month but it was definitely worthwhile. I’d encourage others to try it at least once.

That really sounds like a challenge! I don’t know if I’ll make it but I certainly will try. It’s a great idea!
I guess it’s a good thing that this one is a post and that I seem to have already written my first comment for this month! Good luck to us all finding the most intriguing posts and writing the most creative posts!

    1. We know what you mean! Our participation this year will be to read and comment, rather than write. We’re hoping to make all sorts of lovely discoveries!
